As for diesel, The Series II Discovery, never came with a 200 or 300tdi engine. It only came with the TD5 engine. You might be better off using the MB 5 Cylinder diesel as used in the Sprinter van. There are already adapters out there for this proven combination to the drivetrain.
Jun 19, 2010. #1. Hi there, I need to buy a 200tdi engine to use in a conversion of my 2.5n/a defender. I have found one but I need some help as I am not sure if it is a 300tdi or a 200tdi. It is from a K reg discovery, which in theory is therefore 1993 and before the 300tdi was introduced in 1994, and has the same round dipstick coming out of
Engine conversions are common in series Land Rovers and if you want to retain value, then the Land Rover conversions are always preferred (IE. Rover V8, 200 TDI or 300tdi). 200 is easier as it - For a LHD, move the engine forward with the longer bellhousing from a Discovery !!! - The story changes if you take a Defender 200Tdi, which has the turbo at a higher position. I have been driving 200Tdi, 300Tdi and 2.8TGV engines for the last 20 years and never had any serious problems. 200tdi, for sure, makes more noice, feul consumption is Firstly the 300tdi engine and its ancillaries are the same for the Defender and the Discovery and Land Rover fitted them in the same position relative to the front axle on both models. (The front of a Defender chassis is virtually identical to a tdi Discovery.) Assuming that your Land Rover is an early 4cylinder model you will need to weld on
Looks like it's been retrofitted with a 300tdi from a discovery. That's a 300tdi, not a 200tdi, and it looks like a 300tdi disco air box. A 300tdi air filter is tubular in shape and sits on the fuel pump side of the engine. Your mechanic is either going off age-related info or never looked under the bonnet.
Pre-facelift 1992 200Tdi three-door (Portugal) Pre-facelift 1993 Discovery 200Tdi five-door (UK) At launch, the Discovery was only available as a three-door model; the original 64 press demonstrator examples (carrying Gxxx WAC license numbers - hence being nicknamed "G-WAC"s by Land Rover enthusiasts) are increasingly prized.
